Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl” release and the return of Queen Radio

I think Rick James would be proud.

The “Queen of Rap” is back and she has brought the heat. Iconic Nicki Minaj bops are essential for any playlist to bring the sizzle, the spice, and the sexiness. However, it felt like we were in a Nicki Minaj iconic song drought for a while. We’ve all heard her features, and her classics such as “Super Bass,” yet something felt missing, until July 11.

The hearts of the Minaj “Barbz” fanbase have now been filled with a delicious remix of an 80s classic. Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl” is a play on the 80s singer-songwriter Rick James’ “Super Freak” that had everyone grooving in 1981. The hype around “Super Freaky Girl” first boiled over on social media with Minaj posting a snippet of the new song in her typical seductive fashion that had fans losing their minds with anticipation.

To song gives a nod to the original inspiration by opening with the original tune’s creator Rick James belting out “she’s alright, that girl’s alright with me,” before Minaj takes over with her clever and sensual lyrics. Through her words, Minaj once again reminds the world that no one can touch her power, her looks, or her talent. In a series of pictures on the rapper’s social media, Minaj referenced her lyrics to promote the new song; such as “I got a princess face, a killer body, samurai mind,” to prove to the world that its as if she was the girl Rick James was originally singing about.

Alongside her announcement of the new song, Minaj also announced the return of her very own talk show, Queen Radio, exclusively on Apple Music and Amazon’s Amp app. Her talk show features interactions and calls with her “Barbz” fanbase as well as special guests and more. The rapper first started the show in 2018 right before the release of her “Queen” album. The talk show took a long break during the pandemic, but now it is officially back!
