Dior Unveils its latest Cruise 2024 Collection in Mexico City

Dior unveils their latest collection, Cruise 2024 in Mexico City on May 20th. The show was hosted in the beautiful Colegio de San Ildefonso museum, which features some of the most famous murals and artwork from across the country. The collection was created by Dior's current creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri. Inspired by the rich Mexican culture and the late artist Frida Kahlo, the looks feature traditional textiles, embroidery and pay homage to symbols and items utilized by Kahlo.

As a way to pay tribute to and ensure authenticity, Dior collaborated with several indigenous communities across Mexico including: The Mazatec, Chinantec, Zapotec, Mixtec, The Nahua community in the Sierra Norte de Puebla, Oaxaca communities and Tzotzil of Chiapas. The various looks are taken from different regions across Mexico, and utilize heavy notes from Diors’ 2019 Cruise Collection (also majorly influenced by the Mexican female rodeo cowgirls).

Reflecting back on Diors history, its influence and inspiration drawn from Mexican culture goes way back. In 1953, Dior launched its “Mexico” dress for their Spring/Summer collection inspired by its rich folklore. In 1954, Mexico's luxury department store, El Palacio de Hierro, began its Dior partnership. Popularized by the famous Mexican Actress, Maria Felix, a frequent shopper of the luxury brand, Dior sent their Paris models to showcase their latest line to the store. Since then Dior has continued to collaborate and draw inspiration from the country's rich artistic heritage.

Several high profile names and Dior global ambassadors were in attendance to watch the show, rocking various Dior looks and collections, including: Rachel Zegler, Alicia Keys, Aislinn Derbez, Emma Raducanu, Fabiola Guajardo, Yalitza Aparicio Martinez, Emma Myers, Karla Souza, Naomi Watts, Christian Serratosm etc.
