The epic religious scandal of Addison Rae’s Adidas x Praying promotion

Hell hath no fury like the internet scorned.

As if TikTok star Addison Rae’s life couldn’t seem to get any more embarrassing thanks to her family drama, her social media went up in flames thanks to a certain eye-catching campaign she took part in promoting. You’d think the sacred act of making the sign of the cross in the traditional Catholic religion would stay just that: sacred. However, the clothing brand Praying had other ideas for the gesture.

Recently, Praying announced its upcoming collaboration with athleisure giant Adidas through a few snaps of the various pieces that will be or are already available. Enter, Addison Rae. The influencer posted a recently-deleted picture of her donning a white string bikini inscribed with “Father” and “Son” across the top. You can probably imagine where the words “Holy Spirit” are written on the rest of the bikini.

The photo sparked immediate outrage from religious individuals calling the advertisement “disrespectful,” “distasteful,” and “blasphemous.” The contempt for the advertisement hardly went unnoticed to the point where Rae took the photo down and decreased activity on social media, but that didn’t stop the criticism from carrying over to even unrelated posts. However, as much as there was contempt, there was praise to be found amongst all the comments damning Rae to hell. Some believed the swimsuit to be iconic, and funny or called out the Catholic and Christian religions entirely. Neither Rae, Praying, nor Adidas has made any statements about the advertisement or the collaboration, besides its initial announcement. Praying released more details about the collab in the form of an anticipated pair of Adidas x Praying Supernova sneakers that will be released on August 26 with the Instagram caption “Judgement Day.” Even so much as two Instagram posts about the sneaker from Praying have been unable to escape the angry outcry against the religious mockery.

But this isn’t the first alleged religious offense Praying has committed. In fact, their entire brand serves ironic religious-oriented slogans plastered on shirts and accessories such as “God’s favorite” on one item and “I’ll talk to God when I’m dead” on another item. It is unfortunate that a young member of the public eye, such as Rae, was subjected to the harsh reality of playing with religious fire when it came to the promotion. But it goes to show you that no one is safe from the wrath of God’s devoted followers, even when it comes to a $100 bikini.
